Mid-Hudson Airbnbs Expecting 50K+ Guests During 2019 Ski Season

The majority of guests will be from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York.

MID-HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Need a place to stay if you are a skier and coming to the mid-Hudson Valley during the 2019 ski season? Better book soon. According to Airbnb, the mid-Hudson region is expected to welcome more than 50,o00 guest arrivals, with hosts expected to earn a total of about $8.3 million in supplemental income.

"As ski season kicks into high gear this President's Day weekend, home sharing is helping to bring critical tourism dollars into communities across the Hudson Valley and Catskills, benefiting residents and small businesses alike," said Josh Meltzer, head of Northeast Policy for Airbnb.

"By offering more affordable accommodation options, Airbnb is not only helping more families spend a weekend away on the slopes, but also generating extra income for homeowners throughout the state," he said.

Of the 53,100 Airbnb guests expected to come to the region, nearly one in four will be families, according to a spokeswoman.

The majority of guests will be from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York.

In total, guests will be from 67 countries, all 50 U.S. states and about 2,100 cities worldwide.

Airbnb said about 2,000 mid-Hudson Valley hosts will open their doors this ski season; 60 percent are women and nearly one in four are seniors.

The top five most popular destination cities this ski season are:

  • Manorville
  • Kingston
  • Woodstock
  • Saugerties
  • New Paltz

The Hudson Valley and Catskills region specifically has experienced a 140-percent increase in Airbnb guest arrivals.

Airbnb said an average host can earn more than $3,500 by opening up his or her home during the 2019 ski season.
