Mid-Hudson Valley School Districts Consider Budgets
Dutchess, Ulster, Orange communities have chance to weigh in on school budgets before voting on May 16.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY—Various school districts across the Mid-Hudson Valley are considering their respective 2017-2018 budgets.
Statewide school district budget elections take place May 16.

Arlington Central School District: The preliminary budget, presented at budget workshops throughout February, totals $212,948,000 and would raise the tax levy by 2 percent, which complies with the New York State-mandated property tax cap of 2.14 percent. A community budget forum will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 16 at the Central Administrative Office at 144 Todd Hill Road in Lagrangeville.
Poughkeepsie City School District: A budget workshop will be held at 6 p.m. April 5 at the Jane Bolin Administration Building at 11 College Ave. in Poughkeepsie, followed by a hearing at 7 p.m. May 10 at the same location.

Beacon City School District: The technology, athletics, transportation and operations/maintenance portions of the budget were presented in February. The special education budget will be presented on Monday, March 13, and a final budget review will take place March 27 before adoption on April 10, both at Beacon High School at 101 Matteawan Road in Beacon. A budget hearing will be held May 8, also at Beacon High School.
Wappingers Central School District: Superintendent Jose L. Carrion's budget presentation takes place March 13, and the Board of Education budget hearing will be held March 27 followed by budget approval on April 18. Another hearing will take place May 8.
Rhinebeck Central School District: A budget workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 25, at the Bulkeley Middle School/Rhinebeck High School Library at 45 N. Park Road, Rhinebeck. A public budget hearing will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, and another at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, at the same location.
Ulster
Kingston City School District: The Board of Education will hold a budget discussion during its meeting at 6 pm. April 5 at the Cioni Administration Building at 61 Crown St. in Kingston. A budget hearing will take place May 3 at the same location.
New Paltz Central School District: A budget presentation was made at the Board of Education's Wednesday, March 1 meeting. A community budget forum will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 15 at New Paltz High School at 130 South Putt Corners Road in New Paltz. The final budget will be presented and approved at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, and then a public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, all at the high school.
Highland Central School District: Budget workshops and discussions were held throughout January and February, and the proposed budget will be presented on March 7. Budget workshops and presentations will be held from March 21 through April 19, and a public hearing on the budget will take place May 2.
Orange
Newburgh Enlarged City School District: Superintendent Roberto Padilla on Feb. 14 proposed a budget of $267,100,000, a 1.04 percent increase from last year. This would raise the tax levy by 2 percent, which complies with the New York State-mandated property tax cap of 2.14 percent. A subsequent budget discussion was held on Feb. 21, and three more will be held on March 14, 21, and April 4. The budget will be adopted on April 19, followed by a public hearing on May 9.
Enlarged City School District of Middletown: The proposed 2017-2018 budget, which totals $183,390,611 -- a 9.08 percent increase from 2016-2017 -- was presented on Feb. 15. A revenue discussion took place on Thursday, and public input will be solicited on Thursday, March 16. The budget will be adopted Thursday, April 27, followed by a budget hearing on Thursday, May 4. All budget meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. at Presidential Park Elementary School, 50 Roosevelt Ave., Middletown.
