Middletown Teacher Injured Breaking Up Fight
Officials said the incident on Monday involved two students who were fighting in a hallway outside a classroom.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — A Middletown High School teacher was injured Monday while trying to break up a fight between two students.
In a letter to the school community posted on Wednesday, superintendent Amy Creeden said the incident took place in a hallway outside a classroom and lasted about 90 second.
She said security staff responded immediately, with nine security personnel on the scene about 30 seconds into the fight.

“Regrettably, a member of the faculty at Middletown High School was injured while attempting to intervene,” Creeden said.
“The matter is currently under investigation and being handled with the utmost seriousness,” she said. “Appropriate corrective action will be taken as outlined in our Code of Conduct.”

Creeden said that misconduct such as what happened Monday cannot be tolerated.
“We have high expectations for our young people and are doing all we can to support them,” she said. “Each school campus is equipped with various resources to support our young people in navigating crises, tension, anger and frustration with positive, productive solutions free from violence.”
