More Ways To Celebrate Independence Day

Here's an update on the ways you can celebrate Independence Day, starting this week.

This year's Fourth of July events and fireworks are not all happening on July 4. Here's a list of fireworks and other events in the Mid Hudson Valley that take place around the national holiday.

June 17, 18

Looking for some early excitement? Try the Hudson Valley Renegades or the Rockland Boulders over the June 17 weekend. The Renegades also have fireworks June 23 and 24; plus July 1,2 and 5. The Boulders also have fireworks June 24, 25 and July 1,2,3 and 4.

July 1

The Town of New Paltz begins its holiday celebrations on Friday, July 1 at the Ulster County Fairgrounds at 249 Libertyville Road, New Paltz. The event begins at 5 p.m. with food trucks, fun experiences for kids and musical performances by The Saints of Swing and Soul Purpose. Emcee Carl Welden will lead the festivities and Esme Hyman will sing the National Anthem. The fireworks begin at dusk. Admission is free; bring a chair or a blanket to sit on. The rain date is Friday, July 8.

July 2

The City of Poughkeepsie will celebrate Independence Day with a fireworks display from 6:30 to to 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 2 over the Hudson River. The best places to view the fireworks are from Waryas Park, The Walkway Over the Hudson (tickets required) and The Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum (tickets required).

Pound Ridge will have Independence Day fireworks at dusk on Saturday, July 2 at the Town Park in Pound Ridge.

The Town of Southeast will hold its Fireworks Spectacular from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 2 at Independence Way, Southeast, NY (Decicco's Parking Lot). The event will include 30 minutes of fireworks and a concert featuring Tony T and the City Express Band, plus guests.

West Point Military Academy will celebrate Independence Day with fireworks and a concert by the United States Military Academy band. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 2 at Trophy Point Amphitheater, West Point, New York. In case of inclement weather, the event will take place on Sunday, July 3.

July 3

Lake Carmel will have fireworks at dusk on Sunday, July 3. If it rains the fireworks will take place on July 9.

The City of Beacon will have a day of family fun and patriotic celebrations and fireworks on Sunday, July 3 at Beacon Memorial Park, Route 52 an Wilkes Park. Fireworks begin at dusk.

July 4

Hyde Park will begin its Independence Day parade at 10 a.m. Monday, July 4 starting at the Roosevelt Theater. Parade participants have the option to compete for a trophy. You can find more information here.

The Peekskill Fourth of July parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 4 at Highland Avenue.

The Pearl River Board of Trade sponsors a free concert and fireworks display at the East Central Avenue ball field on Monday, July 4. The free concert starts about 7 p.m. and the fireworks start at 9 p.m. in the field behind the Pearl River Library. It is visible from surrounding streets.

Kingston’s Fourth of July Celebration and Fireworks will take place at 9:30 p.m. Monday, July 4 at the Downtown Kingston Waterfront. The celebration will include food, fun and music.

And remember, it's not all about fireworks!

The Village of Fishkill will read the Declaration of Independence at 10 and 11 a.m. on Monday, July 4 on the front steps of Village Hall at 1095 Main Street.

The Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site will celebrate the 240th birthday of the United States with a guided walking tour of the battlefield. An illustrated lecture on the development of the Declaration of Independence will take place at 1 p.m. Monday July 4, the Declaration will be read at 2 p.m. and cannons will be fired at 2:45 p.m.
