Newburgh School Superintendent Suspended Pending Investigation
School board leaders confirmed the suspension in an announcement Monday.

NEWBURGH, NY – Local school Superintendent Jackielyn Manning Campbell has been suspended pending an ongoing investigation and proceedings, school officials confirmed Monday.
The Newburgh Enlarged City School District Board indicated in an announcement that the decision was made “in accordance with legal requirements and the commitment to uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability.”
The board did not provide the reason for the suspension or how long it will last.

Christine Bello, board president, said the panel is bound by confidentiality rules.
“We want to assure our community that we are fully committed to sharing what information we can in a timely manner," Bello said, in the Jan. 27 announcement.

According to Bello, the board understands the concerns and emotions surrounding its decision, and she said the board asks for the community’s patience.
"Our priority is to ensure fair and thorough processes while meeting our commitments to the proper governance of our school district,” she said, in the announcement.
Manning Campbell could not be reached for comment following the decision.
On Jan. 23, she made an announcement on the school district’s website about the results of a recent audit of district finances.
