Skoufis Leads Houle In Race For NY Senate District 42
Democratic State Sen. James Skoufi is running against Republican Dorey Houle to represent state Senate District 42.

MID-HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The race between James Skoufis, a Democrat, and Dorey Houle, a Republican, for the 42nd Senate District is too close to call. As of midnight Tuesday, Skoufis is ahead of Houle 48,445 to 47,265, with 262 election districts out of 275 reporting.
The lead has gone back and forth between the two candidate over the course of the evening.
Skoufis, who lives in Cornwall, is currently representing state Senate District 39. He served six years in the state Assembly before being elected to the state Senate in 2018.Among the issues he focused on for the campaign were advancing the region’s infrastructure, ensuring women are treated equally under the law, the environment and fighting to get the region the state assistance it deserved to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Houle, who lives in Monroe, is a member of the Monroe Town Board. She is also an American Sign Language instructor.
If elected, she said she will lower inflation and the cost of living, improve school resources and access to social worker and restore public safety.

The new 42nd New York Senate District is made up of most of Orange County, not including the towns of Newburgh and Montgomery.
