Nyack To Vote On School Budget And Board Members

The 2016-17 school budget is expected to increase by 2.69 percent.

Nyack School District residents can vote on the 2016-17 School Budget and for three School Trustee positions on May 17.

Two of the School Trustee positions are for three-year terms, while the third is for a two-year term. Candidates will fill positions for the seats currently held by Dan Juechter, Michael Mark and Terence Rock.

School Trustee candidates in Nyack are elected at-large, meaning a person does not run for a particular seat. The candidates receiving the most votes will fill the three Trustee positions.

The Nyack School District will bring a budget plan to voters at the current spending level.

  • Proposed Budget Total for 2016-17: $80,700,000
  • Budget to Budget Change: +2.69 percent
  • District-wide tax levy change: 0.24 percent

Budget development will support or expand programs such as Fresh Start, Student Mentoring, High School and Middle School Drama, Athletics, The Marching Band and the Music Department.

The district's enrollment increased this year from 2996 students to 3001.

Voting takes place from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Depew Manor, Hilltop Building, Valley Cottage School and Upper Nyack School. For information on where to vote and for more budget details, visit this link.
