Obituary: Timothy J. Joyce Sr., Former Westchester County PO

Joyce died Friday at the age of 63.

STANFORDVILLE, NY — Timothy J. Joyce Sr., a former member of the New York Police Department and the Westchester County Police died Friday. He was 63.

Joyce is survived by his children Olivia Joyce, Timothy Joyce and Jillian Joyce and his companion Christine Papp, according to his obituary.

After he graduated from the Police Academy, he worked for the NYPD beginning in 1982 and was transferred to the Westchester County Police in 1989. Joyce retired in 2021.

A statement from the Westchester County Police PBA said Joyce was instrumental in making the county's motorcycle unit a success.

The PBA said he was well respected by his peers, and he took part in training a generation of police officers in operating emergency vehicles and patrolling within the town of Cortlandt.

"We will miss his presence, his stories and most importantly his friendship," the PBA said.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Cargain Funeral Home, 418 Route 6 in Mahopac.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Following the service, Joyce will be honored by the Westchester County Police and NYPD with an escort to Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale.
