A posting on the East Clinton Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page said McCormack was with the department from 1994 to 2019, serving as chief for 10 years.
Previously, he was a member of the LaGrange Fire Department.
"Chief McCormack was extremely respected by not only the members of the department," the posting said, "but throughout the Dutchess County fire service. Time will be exceptionally missed by this department's members, not only for his leadership but for his wonderful sense of humor."
Rep. Antonio Delgado, a Democrat representing the 19th Congressional District, said in a statement that the death of McCormack was a loss for the entire community "as we remember a man who dedicated his life to the protection and service of Dutchess County.
"Chief McCormack leaves behind a legacy of selfless service and brotherhood with a decades-long career in the fire service," Delgado said.
"My thoughts and prayers tonight are with his family, friends and the Dutchess County fire service community as they mourn his passing," he said.
