Officer Fatally Shoots Sword-Wielding Man After He Attacked Crisis Team: Police
The suspect had already attacked members of the Dutchess County Mobile Crisis Team before being confronted by Town of Poughkeepsie police.

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A sword-wielding suspect has been shot and killed by police in Dutchess County.
Shortly after 2 p.m., Town of Poughkeepsie police officers were dispatched to a home on Fair Oaks Drive in response to a report of an active assault. It was reported that a man at the location was armed with a sword and was attacking members of the Dutchess County Mobile Crisis Team who were at the home.
Officers learned that the assailant was inside the home, according to officials. Police entered the home and encountered two men inside. One had a head injury.

During a confrontation inside the residence, an officer fired shots. The suspect was struck, and officers immediately took lifesaving measures, according to police. The suspect was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The investigation has been turned over to the New York State Office of the Attorney General who is being assisted by the New York State Police.
