In a bizarre twist, the suspect was identified as 41-year-old Kevin Fitzpatrick, of Fallkill Commons apartments — the man who called police in the first place.

An uninvolved bystander was also struck by gunfire in the arm, police said.

Both the bystander and Fitzpatrick were taken to area hospitals for treatment. While the bystander was treated and released, Fitzpatrick is listed in stable condition.

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police and other surrounding agencies. In addition, the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigations were notified and assisted.

Fitzpatrick will be charged with felony first degree reckless endangerment, felony tampering with physical evidence, and misdemeanor second degree menacing, police officials said.
