1 Killed, 1 Injured After Tree Falls On Truck In Gardiner

The fatal accident happened on Halloween, according to police.

GARDINER, NY — A tree fell on a pickup truck as it was traveling on State Route 44/55 on Friday afternoon, killing the passenger and seriously injuring the driver, police said.

The single-vehicle accident happened around 12:45 p.m. on Oct. 31, according to the Ulster County Sheriff's Office.

Emergency personnel arrived to find a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in the middle of the road with significant damage, police said.

The passenger, a 77-year-old female Gardiner resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 79-year-old male Gardiner resident, was initially treated at the scene, then taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie for treatment of potentially serious injuries, according to police.

Police did not immediately release their names.

A preliminary investigation revealed the truck was eastbound on the road when the large tree fell and crushed the cab, according to police.
