Orange County Man Accused Of Assault, Breaking Cell Phone

State police were initially called to check out a domestic incident.

GREENVILLE, NY — A report of a domestic incident in Orange County led to an accusation of a Greenville man hitting someone with a closed fist.

The New York State Police said, around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, troopers from the Greenville barracks were sent to check out a report of a domestic incident in the town of Greenville.

An investigation found that a fight had occurred, and Jeff Sniffen, 46, of the town of Greenville, struck the victim with a closed fist, causing an injury, police said.

He then broke the victim’s cell phone, according to authorities.

While speaking with the troopers, they said Sniffen threatened to destroy the victim’s car, and then grabbed a metal bat to strike the vehicle.

He was immediately taken into custody and was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, property damage, and third-degree criminal mischief, damaging a motor vehicle, both felonies.

Sniffen was also charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.

He was taken to Orange County Jail for pre-arraignment holding.
