MID-HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The voters have spoken and Hudson Valley's leaders have been chosen.

The New York State Board of Elections numbers said Monday that a total of 2,985,181 state residents voted early between Oct. 26 and Nov. 3. The state also released new voter enrollment numbers as of Nov. 1 showing that there are 13.6 million total voters in the state — 12.4 million of them active. There are 5.9 million registered active Democrats, 2.8 million registered active Republicans and 3 million nonaffiliated with any party.

The local races have been among the most expensive nationally. According to an FEC summary of campaign fundraising, as of Oct. 31, Jones was ranked 20th among all 2,937 candidates for the House, followed by Riley at No. 21, Lawler at No. 34, Ryan at No. 36, Latimer at No. 47, Molinaro at No. 94. Far behind them are Esposito, ranked No. 260, and Flisser, ranked 1,453. The FEC had no contribution filings from Frascone.

Also in the mid-Hudson Valley, State Senator James Skoufis narrowly won in 2022 after district lines were re-drawn, and is battling Monroe Town Councilwoman Dorey Houle again in the 42th District. Timothy Mitts ran on the Conservative line. Skoufis served six years in the state Assembly before being elected to the state Senate in 2018. She campaigned on parents rights and opposition to Proposition 1.

Houle conceded, sending out a statement early Wednesday morning.

“I joined this race nearly two years ago because of my love for New York and my sincere concern that it is on the wrong track," she said. "I congratulate Senator Skoufis and his family on a hard-fought victory. I wish him the best in his fourth term.”

Statewide Proposition 1 was approved by voters.

It asked if the New York State constitution should be changed to provide that people cannot be denied rights based on their "ethnicity, national origin, age, and disability" or "sex, including sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes, and reproductive healthcare and autonomy."
