Police Pursuit Leads To Totaled Mazda In Goshen

Authorities said the driver told them he tried to get away from the police because he thought his license was suspended.

GOSHEN, NY — A New Jersey man ended up totaling the car he was driving after leading police on a pursuit through Goshen.

The New York State Police said, around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, a trooper said a 2012 Mazda 3 was seen speeding west on Route 17 in the village of Goshen.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Justin Cedeno, 20, of Plainfield, New Jersey, tried to get away from the trooper.

About 30 minutes later, Cedeno was seen on Fletcher Street where the pursuit continued onto Cheechunk Road and 6 1/2 Station Road in the town of Goshen, police said.

The Mazda became disabled with it left the roadway and struck a railroad tie, totaling the car, according to law enforcement.

Cedeno told the trooper that he fled because he thought his license was suspended, police said. However, a check of his license found that it was still valid.

He was charged with reckless driving and third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, misdemeanors.

Cedeno was also issued 28 tickets, all returnable to the village and town of Goshen courts.
