Quick Response Saves Life After Jump From Hudson River Bridge

The jumper was located by fire boats 20 minutes later, alive in the river, several hundred yards south of the bridge, officials said.

TOWN OF LLOYD, NY — A lightning-fast and coordinated rescue is being credited for saving the life of the man who jumped off the Mid-Hudson Bridge.

Just before, 2 p.m. Town of Lloyd Police responded to the Highland side of the Mid-Hudson Bridge after a report that someone had just jumped off the bridge.

Within minutes, officers arrived on the scene, located the man's car and were directed by bridge workers who witnessed him jump, Lloyd police said. The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department were immediately contacted and responded.

The City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department quickly deployed their fire boat, and approximately 20 minutes later, located the jumper alive in the river, several hundred yards south of the bridge.

City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department members took the Dutchess County man to Waryas Park in Poughkeepsie, where he was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital.

"Through the coordinated and quick response of all agencies involved, it resulted in quickly rescuing the individual," Town of Lloyd Police Department officials said in a statement praising those involved in the remarkable save.
