Rain Expected For Hudson Valley As Cooler Air Moves In: NWS

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Rain moves into the Hudson Valley region on Tuesday night, and area residents will see a return to fall-like temperatures this week, according to the National Weather Service.
Today and Tuesday will continue to have higher than normal temperatures for early October, with highs reaching into the 80s.
Rosemary Webb, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service based in Albany, said rain will start Tuesday night around 8 p.m. in the Hudson Valley, and it will continue into early Wednesday morning.

Wind gusts could reach around 20 miles per hour as a cold front moves through, according to the National Weather Service.
The U.S. Drought Monitor shows the entire lower Hudson Valley region as “abnormally dry” currently.

According to Webb, the region will get between a half inch and an inch of “beneficial rainfall” by the time the rain ends Wednesday.
While the temperatures are currently in the mid-80s and summer-like, expect a steep drop after the wet weather passes through.
Highs on Wednesday will hover around 70 degrees, and high temperatures on Thursday will be around 61 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
“Normal high temperatures around this time of the year are around 65 degrees,” Webb said.
Nighttime temperatures will dip down into the 30s and 40s later this week, with patchy frost anticipated for Friday.

Tuesday Night: Showers, mainly after 11 p.m. Low around 55. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Wednesday: Showers, mainly before 8 a.m. High near 70. North wind 6 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 40.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 61.
Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 35.
Friday: Patchy frost before 8 a.m. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 66.
