Runaway Wood Chipper Ends With Crash, DWI Arrest: Police

The driver who was charged with aggravated DWI, was four times the legal limit, according to Red Hook police.

RED HOOK, NY — A Dutchess County man was in no shape to drive, let alone transport heavy equipment, according to police.

The Red Hook Police Department says that on Friday, around 2:10 p.m., a patrol officer found a property damage accident on Budds Corners Road, in the Town of Red Hook.

Police say a 2002 Ford truck, which had been towing a commercial wood chipper, was driving north on Budds Corners Road. The truck then went off the roadway and caused the chipper to detach and roll over.

Police say the driver, 33-year-old Dylan R. Silveria, of Red Hook, was interviewed and found to be intoxicated by alcohol.

He was taken to the station for processing and was found to have a .33 percent blood alcohol content, over four times the legal limit, according to cops.

Silveria was charged with misdemeanor aggravated DWI, misdemeanor common law DWI, and traffic infractions. He was released on his own recognizance with a future court date.
