Staff Member At Nursing Home Accused Of Abusing Patient: NYSP

An investigation at the Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck led to the arrest of a 75-year-old worker, according to NY State Police.

RHINEBECK, NY — A staff member trusted to care for vulnerable patients at a Hudson Valley facility is accused of physically abusing one of the patients, according to police.

On Oct. 31, troopers from the New York State Police Rhinebeck barracks went to the Ferncliff Nursing Home, on Ferncliff Drive in the Town of Rhinebeck, after receiving a report of a staff member who had abused a resident.

An investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Rhinebeck concluded that 75-year-old Janice L. Germano, of Tivoli, struck a resident in the face.

On Nov. 5, Germano was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, a class E felony.

She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Rhinebeck Court on Nov. 12.
