Thunderstorms, High Heat To Impact Hudson Valley: NWS

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The region is expected to experience high heat and thunderstorms in the coming days.

Tom Wasula, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Albany, said a heat advisory is in place for today, with temperatures in the lower 90s, and heat indices making it feel like it is in the upper 90s.

The National Weather Service is advising people to stay inside and in the air conditioning, drink plenty of fluids and check on relatives and neighbors.

Friday will be hot again, with high temperatures in the lower 90s. Heat index values could make it feel like it is 104 degrees on Friday, due to the combination of heat and humidity.

Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are possible in the region on Friday afternoon, with the potential for damaging wind gusts, according to the National Weather Service.

“A few thunderstorms on Friday could be strong, with the biggest threat coming from damaging winds,” Wasula said.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Wasula said Saturday looks more pleasant, with sunny skies and less humidity. Sunday will bring another chance for showers and thunderstorms, with high temperatures in the mid 80s, he added.
