Truck Driver Arrested For Reckless Driving After Weekend Collision That Required 2 To Be Airlifted: NYSP

The 41-year-old was released on an appearance ticket, and is due to appear in court in the Town of Shandaken at the end of the month.

SHANDAKEN, NY — A New Jersey man has been arrested and charged for Saturday afternoon's three-vehicle collision in Ulster County that led to two people being airlifted to Albany Medical Center, New York State Police said.

On Saturday, around 1:39 p.m., troopers from the Kingston and Wurtsboro barracks responded to State Route 28, in the Town of Shandaken, after reports of a serious collision involving three vehicles.

An initial investigation found that a 2018 Freightliner, driven by 41-year-old Oscar A. Madrid, of Somerset, New Jersey, was traveling east on State Route 28 when it struck a 2020 Mazda, causing the Mazda to cross into the westbound lane and collide with a 2025 Subaru traveling west.

The driver of the Subaru, a 37-year-old man, and his passenger, a 36-year-old woman, both of Wappingers Falls, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Kingston Health Alliance Hospital for evaluation.

The driver of the Mazda, a 28-year-old man, and his passenger, a 35-year-old woman, both from Newburgh, sustained serious injuries, and were airlifted to Albany Medical Center.

The 35-year-old woman is listed in critical but stable condition, while the 28-year-old man is listed in stable condition.

The driver of the Freightliner, Madrid, and his passenger, a 33-year-old man from Fords, New Jersey, were not injured.

After the investigation, Madrid was arrested and charged with misdemeanor second-degree reckless endangerment, misdemeanor reckless driving, and several vehicle/traffic violations. He was taken to State Police Kingston for processing.

Madrid was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Shandaken Court on October 28.

State police say the investigation remains ongoing.
