WEST POINT, NY — School officials have been tight-lipped about why a ceremony honoring actor Tom Hanks was abruptly canceled, but now the leader of the free world is weighing in.

Hanks was set to receive the Sylvanus Thayer Award from the West Point Association of Graduates, but the ceremony was called off. Neither the school, nor the alumni organization, have been willing to comment on why the ceremony and parade, originally scheduled for Sept. 25, was canceled, but a recent Truth Social post from President Donald Trump is shedding some light on the decision.

"Our great West Point (getting greater all the time!) has smartly cancelled the Award Ceremony for actor Tom Hanks," Trump wrote in the Monday morning post. "Important move! We don’t need destructive, WOKE recipients getting our cherished American Awards!!! Hopefully the Academy Awards, and other Fake Award Shows, will review their Standards and Practices in the name of Fairness and Justice. Watch their DEAD RATINGS SURGE!"
