Victim In Deadly I-87 Two-Car Construction Zone Crash ID'd By NYSP

A 2021 Mercedes-Benz traveling north in the left lane struck a stopped 2003 Freightliner construction vehicle, according to state police.

TOWN OF ESOPUS, NY — Authorities have identified the Hudson Valley driver killed in a two-vehicle collision.

The New York State Police say that on Monday, around 11:15 a.m., troopers from Kingston responded to I-87 north, near milepost marker 80.7 in the town of Esopus, after receiving a report of a two-vehicle collision.

Investigators say a 2021 Mercedes-Benz traveling north in the left lane struck a stopped 2003 Freightliner construction vehicle. The Freightliner had been positioned in both the left shoulder and the left lane, as one of several construction vehicles in place to divert traffic from the left lane to the right lane while a crew installed signs.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, identified as 60-year-old David Moyal, of Kingston, was taken to Kingston Health Alliance Hospital, where he was pronounced dead soon after arrival.

The construction worker in the Freightliner was not injured.
