Victim, Driver ID'd In Fatal I-84 Crash After Police Chase Called Off
After failing to comply with a traffic stop, and a police pursuit, the GMC Sierra pickup collided with a semi-truck, according to police.

TOWN OF NEWBURGH, NY — Authorities have identified the man killed during a police chase in the Hudson Valley.
New York State Police say that on Friday, around 3:43 a.m., troopers attempted to stop a 2015 GMC Sierra pickup truck on Route 9W, in the town of Newburgh.
However, the driver of the pickup did not comply, and troopers gave chase, southbound on Route 9W to State Route 32, and then to I-84 westbound.

State police discontinued the pursuit because the suspect vehicle was traveling at dangerously high speeds. Soon after, troopers found that the vehicle had crashed off the shoulder of the roadway.
An initial investigation determined that the pickup collided with a tractor (without a trailer), causing the driver to lose control of the pickup and crash.

The passenger in the pickup, 25-year-old Phelipe Figueroa, of Otisville, was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh, where he died.
The driver, 25-year-old Liam F. McNichol, of Port Jervis, was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with minor injuries. NYSP say that charges are pending.
The New York State Attorney General's Office was notified of the fatal incident and has responded, according to state police.
State police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the SP Montgomery Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-344-5300.
