Victim ID'd In Monday's Deadly Heavy Equipment Construction Accident

The 61-year-old victim was struck and killed by an excavator, according to public safety officials in Dutchess County.

BEACON, NY — Authorities have identified the 61-year-old who was killed in a tragic construction accident.

The City of Beacon Police Department said that on Monday, police officers, EMS and the Beacon Fire Department responded to a construction site on Fishkill Avenue, between Conklin Street and Dallis Place, after receiving a report of a worksite accident.

At the scene, 61-year-old Amalio Lombardi, of Goshen, had been fatally struck by an excavator.

The construction was part of the City of Beacon's infrastructure improvement project. The city's adminstration extended "its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Lombardi." Mayor Kyriacou ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff for the rest of the week in honor of Lombardi.

Due to the accident, Route 52 near Hedgewood Assisted Living, from Dallis Place to Conklin Street, was closed in both directions around noon. Drivers were asked to use alternate routes. By 5:15 p.m., Fishkill Avenue had been fully reopened.

"Our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Lombardi's family and friends," the City of Beacon Police Department said.

Police say that an investigation of the incident is ongoing.
