Wallkill Woman Attacks Neighbors With Hammer: Police

Authorities said one of the victims was able to get the hammer away from the woman.

WALLKILL, NY — An Orange County woman was accused of attacking neighbors with a hammer in the town of Wallkill.

The New York State Police said, shortly before 12:30 p.m, Sunday, troopers were sent to a home on Maple Fields drive in Wallkill for a report of an assault in progress.

Police said the investigation found that Letoya Washington, 36, of Wallkill, was involved in a fight with a neighbor and attacked two people with a hammer.

The victims were not hit with the hammer, police said, but there was a fight that got physical when one of the people Washington attacked was able to take the hammer away from her.

She was arrested for fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing, misdemeanors.

Washington was released on her own recognizance and ordered to return to the Town of Wallkill Court March 29.
