'Wild' Sniffs Out Drugs On I-84, 2 Revolvers Seized, 1 Arrested: NYSP

The driver and a juvenile were released, but a 27-year-old was arrested with MDMA and crack on him, according to police.

BEACON, NY — Man's best friend helped lead troopers to a cache of drugs and two handguns, according to police.

New York State Police say that on Wednesday, around 12:45 p.m., members of the Troop K Community Stabilization Unit pulled over a vehicle traveling east on I-84, in the City of Beacon.

A female driver, a juvenile passenger in the back seat, and a front-seat passenger, 27-year-old Savon T. Bagby, of Newburgh, were in the car at the time of the stop.

During their investigation, troopers found that Bagby had an active warrant out of the City of Newburgh. He was taken into custody, and troopers report finding around 15.5 grams of MDMA and 3.5 grams of crack cocaine on his person.

NYSP K9 Wild then conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted troopers to the presence of narcotics, cops said. A search of the vehicle found two revolvers, according to NYSP.

The driver and juvenile passenger were released.

Bagby was arrested and charged with felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (hallucinogen), felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (intent to sell), felony fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two felony counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two felony counts of criminal possession of a firearm, and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

Bagby was arraigned in the City of Beacon Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center in lieu of $50,000 cash bail, $400,000 bond, or $700,000 partially secured bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court on October 20.
