3 Injured In Times Square Shooting, Person In Custody: NYPD

MIDTOWN, NY — Three people were injured early Saturday in a shooting in Times Square, according to police.
A spokesperson for New York City police said the shooting happened around 1:20 a.m. at the corner of West 44th Street and 7th Avenue.
Police said a 19-year-old man was shot in the right foot, a 65-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg and an 18-year-old woman had a graze wound on her neck.

Police did not say what led up to the shooting.
All three victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital, where police said they were in stable condition.

According to police, a person is in custody following the shooting, but has not been charged.
Reports from CBS New York and ABC7 said the shooter was 17 years old.
New York City has seen a remarkable drop in gun violence this year. Through Aug. 3, it has seen its fewest shootings in decades, down 23 percent so far since last year, according to The Associated Press.
New York bans firearms from some locations within the city, such as public transportation, hospitals, schools and Times Square, and requires that handgun owners prove "good moral character." The U.S. Supreme Court declined to take up a challenge to the state’s gun laws in April, the AP reported.
