Midtown Office Building Fire Leaves 7 Injured: FDNY

Four firefighters were hospitalized after battling an electrical fire in the basement of a Midtown office building on Sunday.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — An electrical fire in a Midtown office building sent four people to the hospital on Sunday, authorities said.

Flames erupted in the basement of 575 Lexington Ave., a 34-story tower between East 51st and 52nd streets, about 3:35 p.m., the FDNY said.

It took nearly three hours to put out the blaze, which was under control by about 6:25 p.m., according to an FDNY spokesperson.

Four firefighters were hospitalized with unspecified injuries, while three injured civilians were treated at the scene, officials said.

The high-rise is home to a WeWork office-share space and a Duane Reade on the ground floor.

Utility companies will "evaluate manholes and transformer vaults" in the area, an FDNY spokesperson said.
