Cars To Be Barred From Part Of Broadway For Earth Day
Overall, the Department of Transportation is closing six streets.

MIDTOWN, NY — A stretch of Broadway is going car free for Earth Day.
The street will be closed to cars for 30 blocks between Union Square and Times Square on April 22.
Cars will also be barred uptown on St. Nicholas Avenue between 181st Street and 190th Street, as well as roads in other boroughs.

Earth Day was established in 1970 by environmentalists to raise awareness to climate change.
Below is the full list of street closures for April 22.

Queens: Woodside Avenue from 75th to 77th Street; Shore Boulevard from Ditmars Avenue to Astoria Park Street.
Brooklyn: Montague Street from to Court Street to Pierrepont Place.
Bronx: Eagle Avenue from E 161st Street to E 163rd Street.
All closures will be between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
A number of side streets were also closed to cars last year. DOT has not announced whether it will do the same this year.
Transportation alternative organizer Chelsea Yamada tweeted Monday about the closures.
