Crooks Nab $1M In Early A.M. Diamond District Stick-Up: Police

A pair of possibly armed robbers stole about $1 million worth of jewelry in an early morning heist on Thursday.

MIDTOWN, NY — Thieves made off with about $1 million worth of jewelry in an early morning Diamond District heist on Thursday, police said.

Two crooks interrupted what officials described as a private jewelry sale inside a West 47th Street building at around 1:30 a.m.

One of the men insinuated that he had a handgun, and demanded the pricy goods, police said.

The thieves took the jewelry, which police said was valued at around $1 million, and fled in a black Mercedes sedan, driving west on West 47th Street.

Police officials said the possibly armed duo both had dark complexions and that one of them wore a white shirt, while the other wore a red shirt.
