A Tomato-Shaped Lamp, A Sandwich Clock, And More At This Whimsical NYC Pop-Up
It's a feast for the eyes.

MIDTOWN, NY — The MoMA Design Store is launching a playful pop-up shop that reimagines everyday food as design-forward objects for the home, the store said on Thursday.
The faux-food-themed pop-up, called MoMA Mart, will open Jan. 6 and run through March 29 at the MoMA Design Store’s Soho location at 81 Spring St., as well as its Midtown store at 44 West 53rd St., and online.
The pop-up draws inspiration from food’s long-standing role in art and design, featuring items that resemble familiar kitchen staples but function as lamps, decor, candles, clocks and furniture, museum administrators said.

The concept is influenced by works in The Museum of Modern Art’s collection, including pieces by artists Claes Oldenburg and Ed Ruscha, according to the museum.
"Food has always been a powerful cultural force, and designers are embracing it in fresh, imaginative ways," Emmanuel Plat, the director of Merchandising, said.

"MoMA Mart brings that creativity to life while drawing a line back to MoMA’s own history of collecting faux-food objects that blur the boundaries between art, humor and daily experience," Plat said.
The MoMA Mart assortment includes a tomato-shaped table lamp, beeswax candles, food-inspired vases, sandwich- and pizza-themed clocks, sculptural stools and salt-and-pepper shakers, and much more, museum store administrators said.
