Decomposing Body Found In Columbus Circle Manhole, Police Say

The city medical examiner will determine how the man died.

COLUMBUS CIRCLE, NY — Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found early Tuesday morning in a state of decomposition inside a manhole on the southern end of Columbus Circle.

Officers responded to West 58th Street and Eighth Avenue after workers discovered the man's body shortly after 3 a.m., police said. Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said.

The city medical examiner will investigate the man's exact cause of death. The NYPD have not determined whether the death is related to a crime, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Police did not disclose the identity of the man whose body was found Tuesday morning.
