MIDTOWN, NY — A Cadillac driver accused in a dining-shed wrecking car chase tried to evade police by stealing a disguise, but was ultimately caught with nearly 40 grams of meth in his car, prosecutors said in the announcement of his indictment.

Benjamin Abrams, 56, was indicted Thursday — more than a month after the East 30th Street crash that left two cops injured — on criminal drug possession, assault, reckless endangerment and burglary charges, said District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

“This driver allegedly engaged in an incredibly reckless and dangerous car chase that injured two NYPD officers," said Bragg.

"Many other lives were put at risk as he wove through streets and sidewalks, and even drove right through an outdoor dining structure. I wish the officers injured a full and speedy recovery."

The wild chase began when cops stopped Abrams's black Cadillac for a traffic violation on April 19 and he provided them with a fake North Carolina license, police said.

That's when Abrams hit the gas and tried to flee, prosecutors contend.

The sedan sped through midtown against traffic and onto sidewalks until Abrams got stuck on East 30th Street, prosecutors said.

Abrams then put his car into reverse, hit two police officers and plowed through an outdoor dining shed, according to officials and a video taken by a witness.

One of the cops suffered a concussion and needed stitches, officials said.

Abrams later broke into a homeless shelter and stole a worker outfit to disguise himself for several hours, prosecutors said.

Inside his abandoned car, prosecutors say they found 37 grams of methamphetamines. Abrams was arrested on May 6.
