Falling Glass From 5-Star Midtown Hotel Injures 1, Officials Say
The injured person was hospitalized with minor injuries.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries Thursday after being struck by falling glass outside a 5-star Midtown hotel, officials said.
Emergency personnel arrived on the scene outside the Quin Hotel at 101 West 57th Street near Sixth Avenue around 11:30, an FDNY spokesman said. The person who was struck by the falling glass was transported to Bellevue hospital and about 60 firefighters worked to secure the area for civilians and hotel workers, an FDNY spokesman said.
The FDNY declared the scene under control by 11:45, a spokesman said.

The glass fell from the 17-story hotel building after a glass panel on a 17th-floor balcony shattered, a city Department of Buildings spokeswoman said. The panel shattered as workers were removing it in order to install scaffolding, the spokeswoman said.
The piece of glass that fell to the street was described as "small" by a DOB spokeswoman.

The DOB issued the hotel a violation for failure to safeguard all persons and property during construction operations and issued a stop work order for scaffolding operations a the site.
