Fire Erupts In Manhattan Basement Tuesday, FDNY Says
The fire started in the mechanical room of the building.

MIDTOWN, NY — A fire erupted in the basement of a restaurant near the corner of West 53rd Street and Sixth Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, New York City Fire Department officials said.
According to the FDNY, the fire broke out at 1326 Sixth Ave. at 4:51 p.m. and was brought under control at 6:08 p.m.
More than 100 firefighters and medics responded to the scene, the FDNY said.

No injuries were reported, and the investigation is underway, police said.
Videos posted to social media Tuesday afternoon show large plumes of black smoke hanging over the street. Operations are ongoing, FDNY officials said.

The FDNY said the fire took place in a Hilton hotel, but when Patch reached Hilton for comment, a spokesperson said the fire did not take place inside the hotel. According to the New York Post, the fire took place in the basement of La Grande Boucherie, a swanky French restaurant.
Expect traffic and transit disruptions in the area, the New York City Department of Emergency Management said.
