Girl Scouts From Family Shelters Hold Midtown Cookie Sale On Friday
Troop 6000 — a troop made up of young girls currently living in the shelter system — is selling the notorious cookies until 4 p.m. today.

MIDTOWN, NY — A Girl Scout troop made up of girls living in family shelters will be selling the beloved cookies in Midtown, near the Bank of America building on Sixth Avenue, until 4 p.m. today.
Hosted by Bank of America, Troop 6000's cookie sale will help fund their activities, including badges, uniforms and memorable trips to Girl Scout Camp.
Since launching in 2017 by a homeless single mother of five children, Troop 6000 has expanded to over 20 family shelters across the city, reaching over 2,000 girls and woman who may not have any exposure to scouting and their fun character and skill-based activities prior.

"The best thing about being a girl scout is that you get to learn about things you never knew before," one Troop 6000 scout told NBC News earlier this year.
Led by women who live in the shelter system and other community volunteers, the troop meets weekly to work on merit badges in subjects ranging from STEM to business skills to civic virtues, explore the city on field trips and attend camp upstate.
