Grand Central Train Shed Project May Take 20 Years, Report Says
A $2 billion MTA project to repair two sections of Grand Central Terminal's train shed roof is set to begin in 2020.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The Metropolitan Transit Authority is getting ready to launch a construction project at Grand Central Terminal that could take at least two decades to finish, according to reports.
A $2 billion project to reconstruct sections of Grand Central Terminal's train shed — the underground structure that houses all the tracks and platforms at the Midtown Manhattan transit hub — is scheduled to begin in May, the Wall Street Journal reported. The train shed contains 86 different tracks that service about 700 Metro-North Railroad trains per day.
The complicated infrastructure project entails ripping up entire streetscapes on Park Avenue in order to repair and replace sections of the train shed, the Wall Street Journal reported. MTA officials planned the project to be conducted in phases in order to limit disruption to above-ground activity on the bustling Midtown blocks of Park Avenue, according to the report.
