Gridlock Returns To NYC This Week
Gridlock Days start Wednesday and span much of the next month. Avoid driving into Manhattan and take public transit instead, officials urge.

MIDTOWN, NY – The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is urging New Yorkers to use public transit during the holiday season, particularly on the 15 upcoming Gridlock Alert Days over the next month when traffic is expected to be at its worst.
Gridlock Alert Days are the busiest traffic days of the year, according to the Department of Transportation (DOT), with the first designated day being Wednesday, Nov. 20.

“New York City Transit provides the fastest, most reliable, and affordable means to get around the city all year round,” said NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow, per a press release. “Take the subway or bus to avoid the gridlock and enjoy all the great offerings the city has to offer this time of the year.”
Metro-North and Long Island Railroad officials echoed Crichlow: take transit, if you can, and leave the car at home.
