Hell's Kitchen Gets New Public Safety Coalition

The coalition was launched this past July to address retail theft, substance use, illegal scaffolding, unlicensed cannabis shops, and more.

HELL'S KITCHEN, NY — The Midtown Community Improvement Coalition — a group of city officials and local leaders working to improve public safety and quality of life in Midtown — has just expanded its reach to include Hell's Kitchen in all its improvement initiatives.

Originally covering West 34th Street to West 45th Street from Seventh Avenue to Ninth Avenue, the coalition now includes Hell’s Kitchen up to West 59th Street and over to 10th Avenue, organizers said.

The coalition, known as the "Midtown Hub," was launched this past July, to address a range of issues like retail theft, substance use, illegal scaffolding, unlicensed cannabis shops, sanitation, and more.

District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced the addition of Hell's Kitchen to the hub on Tuesday.

"I’m thrilled that DA Bragg and the Adams administration are expanding the Midtown Community Improvement Coalition, after its initial success addressing quality of life issues in midtown Manhattan," New York State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal, who represents Hell's Kitchen, said. "The program...is unique because it brings together stakeholders from every aspect of our community to find common sense solutions to the problems we all want solved."

The Midtown Community Improvement Coalition brings together law enforcement, elected officials, and community and business leaders from more than 20 city agencies, service providers, and other government and community partners.

For the new expansion of the hub, the coalition has welcomed leaders from the Midtown North Precinct, including Community Council President Delores Rubin and NYPD Deputy Inspector Robert Gault.

“Intense inter-agency coordination and collaboration is essential to address longstanding health, safety and quality of life issues. Expanding the midtown hub’s footprint will mean expanding its effectiveness and impact, a huge win for the area,” Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine said.
