Truck Crashes On UES, 2 Responding Cops Hurt: NYPD

The police officers were hurt after being clipped by a taxi that was driving around the crash scene, an NYPD spokesman said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Two police officers were hurt Monday morning after responding to the scene of a crash on the Upper East Side, an NYPD spokesman said.

The police officers were clipped by a taxi around 7 a.m. near the intersection of Third Avenue and East 59th Street, an NYPD spokesman said. The officers were taken to New York Presbyterian hospital in stable condition, the spokesman said. The spokesman could not confirm whether the officers had been discharged from the hospital.

The taxi was attempting to get around a car that cut in front of it when it clipped the police officers, an NYPD spokesman said. The driver stayed on the scene, the spokesman said.

Police responded to Third Avenue and East 59th Street Monday morning for a "traffic condition," an NYPD spokesman said. Photos from the scene indicate a truck smashed into a traffic light and flipped onto its side, but the NYPD could not confirm these details.

One lane of traffic on Third Avenue was shut down as police operated at the scene of the crash, an NYPD spokesman said.
