Ice Falling From Columbus Circle Towers Hurts 1, FDNY Says

MIDTOWN, NY — Several streets near Columbus Circle were shut down on Wednesday morning after ice started falling down to the street from nearby tall buildings, injuring one person, according to police and fire officials.

Police responded to the Columbus Circle area around after receiving reports of the falling ice, an NYPD spokesman said. One person was transported from the West 58th Street and Seventh Avenue to Lenox Hill Hospital in serious but stable condition around 9:40, an FDNY spokesman said.

Officials from the city Office of Emergency Management confirmed that streets near West 58th Street between Seventh Avenue and Broadway were being closed off for safety concerns.

"Expect traffic delays, road closures and a heavy presence of emergency personnel," city emergency management officials tweeted out Wednesday around 10:45 a.m.

A woman died Tuesday after being hit by a piece of the crumbling facade of the 17-story building at 729 Seventh Ave. near West 49th Street. Erica Tishman, 60, suffered fatal head injuries after being struck by the debris.
