Lincoln Tunnel Bus Fire Brings Traffic To Standstill

All Manhattan-bound traffic in the Lincoln Tunnel was stopped for nearly an hour Thursday afternoon after a bus caught fire.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A bus caught fire in the Lincoln Tunnel Thursday afternoon, bringing Manhattan-bound traffic to a standstill, according to authorities.

The fire began sometime after 2 p.m., forcing authorities to halt all eastbound traffic, according to tweets by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Traffic was backed up by at least 40 minutes as of 2:51 p.m., as the bus continued to block both lanes of the tunnel's south tube, the Port Authority said.

By 3 p.m., the fire was extinguished and traffic had begun moving again, according to the agency.

In an alert, the city advised commuters to expect extensive delays and consider alternate routes.
