Man, 71, Killed In Fight At Hell's Kitchen Supportive Housing: Police

A 71-year-old was killed and a 78-year-old was taken into custody after a stabbing at the Dorothy Ross Friedman Residence in Hell's Kitchen.

HELL'S KITCHEN, NY — A 71-year-old man was killed in a Tuesday night knife-fight inside the Dorothy Ross Friedman Residence in Hell’s Kitchen, police said.

At about 10:20 p.m., officers responded to a call of a fight in progress inside the supportive housing residence on West 57th Street and 10th Avenue involving two seniors, officials said.

The 71-year-old man was found with a stab wound to the back and was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside where he was declared dead, police said.

Officers also found a 78-year-old with slash wounds to both hands, according to officials, who was taken into custody and brought to the same hospital in stable condition.

No charges have been announces and an investigation remains ongoing, police officials said, and the victim's identification is being withheld until family can be notified.

The 30-story Dorothy Ross Friedman Residence, formerly knowns as The Aurora, opened in 1996 and contains 178 shared-living units of affordable, supportable housing, according to their website, catering to low-income individuals within the entertainment community, seniors, and persons living with HIV/AIDS.
