MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A Miami man is facing charges for an anti-semitic attack in Midtown Manhattan that left an Orthodox Jewish man suffering cuts to his face and hands, an NYPD spokesperson said.

Steven Jorge, 28, was arrested and charged with assault as a hate crime for the Monday morning attack, police said. Jorge is accused of punching a 65-year-old man on the side of the face, causing him to fall to the ground, and kicking the man on the ground, police said. The attack took place on East 41st Street and Third Avenue shortly before noon, an NYPD spokesperson said.

Former State Assemblymember Dov Hikind said through his organization Americans Against Antisemitism that the attacker yelled slurs such as "f*** you Jew b******," during the attack. The NYPD did not confirm which slurs were used, but did confirm the assault was a hate crime.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo condemned the attack by sending out a Christmas-day statement.

"This horrific and cowardly act of anti-Semitism is repugnant to our values, and it's even more despicable that it occurred over the holidays," Cuomo said in a statement, adding that he will direct the State Police hate crimes task force to investigate the assault.
