Man Crushed By Dumbwaiter In Midtown Building, FDNY Says
The victim was hospitalized with serious injuries, authorities said.

MIDTOWN, NY — A man was severely injured after a dumbwaiter fell on him in a Midtown building on Tuesday afternoon, New York City Fire Department officials said.
According to the FDNY, the dangerous situation unfolded at a social club at 111 East 54th St. around 12:30 p.m.
The man was working on the dumbwaiter in the dumbwaiter shaft when it fell on him from three floors up, crushing him, officials said.

“We had an approximately 32-year-old male who was working on the dumbwaiter when the dumbwaiter gave way and crushed him below on the ground level,” Mark Bonilla, the division chief of the FDNY’s EMS Special Operations, said.
The victim was hospitalized with serious injuries, authorities said.

“A confined space is a manpower-intensive operation. We had units securing the car itself. We had units breaching walls to get access to the patient. And it was a great operation between our ladder company, our engine companies, our rescue company and our EMS personnel as well,” said FDNY Deputy Chief Nicholas Corrado.
The New York City Department of Buildings is investigating the incident.
