Man Dies In Midtown Police Custody: NYPD

An unidentified 38-year-old man was found unresponsive in his cell Saturday afternoon and later died, police said.

MIDTOWN, NY — A man died in police custody in a Midtown precinct station house over the weekend, according to officials.

The 38-year-old was found unconscious in his cell inside the Midtown South Precinct on West 35th Street and Ninth Avenue Saturday about 2 p.m., officials said.

Emergency responders were summoned as officers tried to save the man's life, but he died after reaching Mount Sinai West Hospital, police said.

The New York Post reports the man had been arrested in connection to a domestic incident and did not appear to have died by suicide.

The cause of the man's death will be investigated by the Force Investigation Division and the Medical Examiner's office, police said.
