Man Hit By Car In Midtown Dies In Hospital, Police Say
The 61-year-old man was struck after falling to the ground while crossing West 40th Street and Eighth Avenue.
MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A man who was run over by a car after falling in a Midtown Manhattan avenue while crossing the street died of his injuries 10 days after the collision, police said.
The 61-year-old man was crossing West 40th Street and Eighth Avenue on Nov. 7 when he fell to the ground in the middle of the avenue, police said. When the intersection's traffic signal switched, the driver of a 2018 white Honda Accord accelerated through the avenue from a stopped position and struck the man, said police.
Shortly after the collision, the driver came to a stop and inspected the area to see if he had hit anything or if his car was damaged, police said. Investigators said the driver did not see the man who he had hit because traffic flow behind him had obscured his view.
