Knife-Wielding Man Kills Pedestrian In Broad Daylight In Manhattan, DA Says

"His extremely vicious conduct left a family in mourning," Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.

MIDTOWN, NY — A man found guilty of stabbing a pedestrian to death on a busy Midtown street in broad daylight was just sentenced to 18 years in state prison, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said Wednesday.

Bragg said Nisean Graves, 36, approached victim Antonio Eggleston and punched him without any provocation near West 30th Street and Seventh Avenue on June 9, 2023, at 8:15 a.m.

Then, a fight broke out between the two and spilled into the middle of the street, Bragg said. During the fight, Graves pulled out a knife and swung at Eggleston, who was 36 years old, several times, eventually stabbing the victim in the heart and killing him.

"Nisean Graves senselessly killed Antonio Eggleston, a complete a stranger, on a busy public street," Bragg said.

"His extremely vicious conduct left a family in mourning, and I hope that this significant prison sentence can give them some sense of justice. Our Office takes unprovoked acts of violence very seriously as we work hand in hand with our law enforcement partners to ensure accountability in these cases."

A New York Supreme Court jury found Graves guilty on one count of manslaughter in the first degree on March 10.
