Man Tried To Kill Commuter On C Train Platform, District Attorney Says

The victim's head was stomped on more than 20 times, District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.

MIDTOWN, NY — Orsen Reyes, 23, has been indicted on one count of attempted murder in the second degree for attacking a 48-year-old man on the C train platform at West 50th Street and Eighth Avenue in Midtown on Dec. 30, District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.

According to the NYPD, at around 1:15 a.m., the man was attacked on a northbound C train platform.

Bragg said that the suspect stomped on the victim's head more than 20 times, before attacking with a sharp object, slashing the victim in the face and neck.

Reyes also grabbed the victim's foot and attempted to drag him toward the train tracks, Bragg said.

Reyes was arrested a few minutes later near Columbus Circle, covered in blood and carrying a knife and two screwdrivers, Bragg said.

At the time of the arrest, police charged him with assault in the first and second degree, as well as criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, officials said.

Now, Reyes is being charged with attempted murder as well, Bragg said.

“New Yorkers deserve to be safe in our subway system, and we will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to combat transit crime," Bragg said.

After the attack, the victim was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/ Bellevue, where he was hospitalized for a week with a traumatic brain injury, multiple fractures, and lacerations, Bragg said.

"I hope the victim continues to heal from this horrifying assault,” Bragg said.
